Sharps rifles are a distinguished series of large-bore, single-shot, falling-block, breech-loading rifles that played a significant role in 19th-century American firearms history. The original design was developed by Christian Sharps in 1848, with production beginning shortly thereafter. Manufactured by various companies over the decades, including the Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Company, the rifles remained in production until 1881. They earned widespread acclaim for their exceptional long-range accuracy, rugged construction, and reliability under harsh conditions.
