Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Uzi is a family of Israeli submachine guns and machine pistols, notable for its open-bolt, blowback-operated design. Developed by Major Uziel "Uzi" Gal in the late 1940s shortly after the establishment of the State of Israel, the Uzi was innovative for its use of a telescoping bolt, which allowed the magazine to be housed within the pistol grip, resulting in a more compact weapon. The Uzi prototype was completed in 1950 and was first introduced to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) special forces in 1954. By 1956, it was adopted for general issue, becoming a vital asset for various branches of the IDF. The Uzi was supplied to rear-echelon troops, officers, artillery crews, tank operators, and elite light infantry assault units, proving its versatility on the battlefield. Exported to over 90 countries, the Uzi has been produced by several manufacturers, including Israel Military Industries and FN Herstal. From the 1960s through the 1980s, it became the most widely sold submachine gun, dominating military, law enforcement, and security markets worldwide. The Uzi carbine shares a similar appearance with the submachine gun but features a longer 16-inch barrel to comply with civilian sales regulations in the United States. This variant operates in semi-automatic mode from a closed-bolt position, utilizing a floating firing pin rather than a fixed one. The selector switch has two settings: "F" for fire (semi-auto) and "S" for safe, as the automatic setting is blocked. Uzi carbines are available in various calibers, including .22 LR, 9mm, .41 AE, and .45 ACP, making them a versatile choice for enthusiasts and collectors alike.
