Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Interarms Mark X is a commercial Mauser-pattern bolt-action rifle built on actions and barreled actions produced by Zastava in Yugoslavia, which Interarms imported from the 1970s into the early 1990s. Some of these rifles (or barreled actions) were shipped to England, where the Whitworth Rifle Company of Manchester performed finishing work—stock fitting, checkering, and proofing under British standards—and then they were exported, often bearing stamps such as Whitworth Rifle Company, Manchester, England. In the Mark X family, rifles marketed under the name Whitworth Express refer to the magnum, safari-style models (chambered in powerful calibers such as .375 H&H or .458 Win Mag) with heavier barrels and reinforced stocks. Many Whitworth-finished rifles feature British proof marks on the action and barrel. Although the name “Whitworth” invokes the famed 19th-century engineer Sir Joseph Whitworth—who designed the original Whitworth rifle—the available documentation does not conclusively link the 20th-century finishing firm to his original enterprise.
