Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this highly sought-after semi-automatic pistol for a penny-start auction; this is the Intratec TEC-9.
The pre-ban Intratec TEC-9 represents an increasingly collectible example of late-20th-century American firearm production. Manufactured by Intratec prior to the passage of the Federal Assault Weapons Ban, these early pistols retain original features such as the threaded barrel and factory configuration that were later restricted on post-ban models. Because production changes and legislation altered the design after 1994, original pre-ban examples have become more desirable among collectors. Today, well-preserved specimens are often sought after not only for their distinctive appearance and historical context but also for their association with a notable era in American firearms legislation and design.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Intratec TEC-9 is a semi-automatic pistol that became widely known during the late 1980s and 1990s for its distinctive appearance and high-capacity magazine capability. Manufactured by Intratec, a subsidiary of Navegar based in Miami, Florida, United States, the TEC-9 was developed as a civilian version of earlier designs derived from the Swedish Interdynamic KG-9. Chambered primarily in 9×19mm Parabellum, the pistol used a simple blowback operation and was typically constructed with a combination of stamped metal and polymer components to keep production costs relatively low. Its threaded barrel and compatibility with large-capacity detachable magazines contributed to its notoriety and recognizable profile.

Mechanically, the TEC-9 is a closed-bolt, semi-automatic pistol that feeds from detachable box magazines often holding 20 to 32 rounds. While its simple design made it relatively inexpensive to manufacture, it also developed a reputation among shooters for inconsistent reliability when compared with more refined firearm designs. Despite this, the pistol’s unusual styling and frequent appearance in media and news coverage made it one of the most recognizable firearms of its era. Production of the TEC-9 and similar variants eventually ceased following legislative changes in the United States during the 1990s, but the firearm remains a notable example of late-20th-century pistol design and continues to attract interest from collectors and historians studying that period of firearms development.
