The Ithaca Model 51, often referred to as the “Featherlight,” is a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun introduced by the Ithaca Gun Company in the late 1960s as the company’s attempt to compete in the growing market for modern autoloading shotguns dominated by designs like the Remington 1100. Designed with a gas-operated action, the Model 51 was intended to provide softer recoil and faster follow-up shots compared to traditional pump shotguns, while still maintaining a relatively lightweight and field-friendly profile.
