Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Izhevsk Mechanical Plant M91/30 refers to the Mosin–Nagant Model 1891/30, the most widely produced and iconic variant of the classic Russian bolt-action rifle, built at the Izhevsk arsenal in the Soviet Union beginning in 1930 and continuing through World War II, with many examples coming off the line there until 1945. This rifle was the culmination of modernization efforts to update the older Model 1891 Dragoon design, featuring refined sights, updated barrel bands, and eventually a more robust round receiver rather than the earlier hexagonal type, along with standard five-round internal magazine and long-action bolt operation; these changes made the M91/30 a dependable, rugged infantry arm ideally suited to the vast battlefields of the Eastern Front. Chambered for the military 7.62×54R cartridge, it balanced effective range, stopping power, and reliability, and its manufacture at Izhevsk contributed substantially to the staggering overall production figures — with millions of M91/30s made across all factories — so many that the rifle remains one of the most common military surplus arms in the world today. The typical M91/30 from Izhevsk is easily identified by arsenal markings such as the arrow-in-triangle stamp on the receiver, and many saw wartime service with Soviet troops, later being refurbished and reissued in the postwar era before passing into civilian hands; some even served as the basis for sniper variants equipped with the PU scope and side-mount rail, further cementing its reputation as a versatile and historically significant firearm
