Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The J.C. Higgins Model 80 is a semi-automatic .22 Long Rifle pistol produced in the mid-20th century, sold by Sears and manufactured by High Standard. It is essentially Sears’ version of High Standard’s Dura-Matic/M-101 series, with the main difference being the branding. Produced roughly between 1955 and 1962, the Model 80 came with either a 4 1/2-inch or 6 1/2-inch barrel and featured a slab-sided frame with fixed sights. Its one-piece brown or tan target-style grip included a thumb rest for better ergonomics and more precise shooting. The pistol used a 10-round detachable magazine and a reliable blowback action. It also had High Standard’s removable barrel design, which made maintenance and cleaning easier. Originally marketed as an affordable yet accurate target pistol, the Model 80 is an excellent example of its connection to both High Standard and Sears’ mid-century J.C. Higgins firearms.
