The K&M Arms M17S556 is a modernized, semi-automatic bullpup rifle engineered around the long-discontinued Bushmaster M17S design. Rooted in the Australian Armstech/Edenpine M17 platform of the early 1980s, it preserves full-sized 5.56 barrels—typically 17.5 inches—in a compact 26.25-inch overall length, offering the ballistic performance of a carbine with the maneuverability of a short weapon. Crafted entirely in the U.S., it features an aluminum upper and lower receiver, AR-18-style short-stroke piston operation, and a three-lug rotating bolt, all while remaining compatible with many common AR-15 parts. Into this sophisticated frame, K&M brought several practical enhancements. The rifle boasts a smooth and crisp Elftmann Tactical–designed trigger with a light and consistent pull, unique among bullpups, and improved ergonomics, such as a left-side charging handle and ambidextrous magazine release. Despite its bullpup layout, the rifle balances naturally at the shoulder—making target transitions quick and effortless—while avoiding the extended length and paperwork complications of short-barreled rifles.
