The "Star Grade" on a Kimber 82 Government rifle is a special designation for a subset of rifles that demonstrated exceptional accuracy during factory testing. While the standard Kimber 82 Government rifles were required to achieve a 10-round group of approximately 0.700 inches at 50 yards, the Star Grade rifles had a more stringent requirement. They were certified to place five rounds into a group measuring 0.300 inches or less at 50 yards. The Star Grade rifles typically have a small star marking, often found near the receiver or barrel during the acceptance testing phase. Due to their proven superior accuracy and relative rarity, Star Grade Kimber 82G rifles are highly sought after by collectors and precision shooters.
