Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Kimber Custom Shop 1911 Centennial Edition stands as one of the most striking tributes to John Moses Browning’s legendary design, created in 2011 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the M1911. Limited to just 250 units, this pistol was crafted with the highest level of detail, blending artistry and precision engineering into one of the finest collector-grade 1911s ever produced by Kimber. Each pistol carries the special MMXI serial number prefix, marking it as part of the centennial year, with individual numbers ranging from 1 to 250. The Centennial Edition was elevated beyond a standard production pistol through the involvement of master gunsmith and finisher Doug Turnbull, whose rust-blued slide, color case-hardened frame, and nitre blue accents on the trigger and pins ensured that every gun was a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. The smooth ivory grips and elegant scroll engraving on the slide added a touch of understated luxury, enhancing the classic lines of the 1911 without overwhelming its timeless design. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Kimber Centennial Edition was built as a fully functional, high-performance firearm true to Browning’s original vision. Chambered in .45 ACP and built on a full-size Government frame, the pistol was hand-fitted with a match-grade barrel, bushing, and a finely tuned trigger to deliver competition-level accuracy. Adjustable rear sights and a dovetailed front sight ensured it could perform just as well on the range as it looked in its custom hardwood presentation case, which was fitted with a leather lid, brass plaque, and felt interior.

Collectors and enthusiasts alike have long debated whether this gun is best displayed as a safe queen or used as a working sidearm, but its rarity and craftsmanship have ensured strong demand on the secondary market. The Kimber 1911 Centennial Edition is far more than just a commemorative—it is a celebration of a design that defined American handgunning for more than a century, and a reflection of Kimber’s dedication to honoring the legacy of one of the greatest firearms ever made.
