Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Llama XV is a classic mid-century Spanish .22-caliber semi-automatic that wears a clear 1911-inspired silhouette — a small, blowback-operated pistol with an external hammer, thumb safety and the familiar slim grip profile that made it attractive as a compact target/plinking pistol and a training gun for shooters who liked 1911 ergonomics in a rimfire package. Introduced in the 1950s and produced in various forms through the 1990s, the XV was made in both steel and lighter alloy-frame “Airlite” versions, normally fed from a single-column 10-round magazine, and offered with plain or ventilated-rib barrels and either fixed or adjustable target sights depending on the variant — details that let owners trade off concealability and weight for a longer sight radius and improved balance for accuracy. Mechanically straightforward and easy to field-strip (many models break down much like a 1911 for cleaning), the XV earned a reputation for solid fit-and-finish relative to its price class and for being a forgiving little pistol with pleasant trigger feel and predictable .22 LR performance at close ranges; later “Especial” and luxury “XVI” runs added nicer grips, engraving and finishes for the export and collector markets. Today the Llama XV is sought after by collectors and rimfire enthusiasts who appreciate its blend of vintage styling, 1911-like controls and practical accuracy, and good examples — particularly ventilated-rib or adjustable-sight target variants — remain common on the used market where they’re valued as affordable, characterful little pistols with an interesting place in Spain’s long small-arms manufacturing history.
