Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Marlin Model 88-C was produced from the early 1950s through the late 1960s as part of Marlin’s expanding line of economical, reliable .22 rimfire rifles. Building on the foundation of the earlier Model 88, the 88-C introduced a tubular magazine in place of the detachable box magazine, giving shooters increased capacity and a smooth, uninterrupted stock profile. Like many Marlin rimfires of the era, it featured the company’s well-regarded Micro-Groove rifling, a simple blowback operating system, and a walnut-finished hardwood stock. These rifles were designed to provide dependable performance for plinking, small-game hunting, and general recreational use, and they quickly gained a reputation for accuracy and long-term durability. Production of the Model 88-C continued until the late 1960s, when Marlin gradually phased out the platform in favor of newer semi-automatic rimfire designs. Despite its modest price point, the 88-C delivered the ruggedness and shootability that characterized Marlin rifles of the mid-20th century, appealing to both beginners and seasoned shooters. Today, the Model 88-C is appreciated by collectors and enthusiasts for its period styling, smooth feeding tube magazine, and its role in Marlin’s evolution of semi-automatic .22 rifles.
