Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this rare double-action revolver today for a penny-start auction, this is the Mateba MTR-8!

The MTR-8 was Emilio Ghisoni's first revolver design, predating the more widely recognized Mateba semi-automatic revolvers and the Chiappa Rhino. It was developed specifically for competition shooting and produced in a range of calibers and configurations, including long carbine variants, various barrel lengths, and calibers such as .22LR, .32 S&W, .38 Special, and .357 Magnum. Unlike Ghisoni’s later Mateba revolvers, the MTR series features the traditional double-action/single-action, not semi-automatic or self-cocking. A total of approximately 500 were produced, making them quite rare and collectible pieces.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The MTR-8 was Emilio Ghisoni's first revolver design, predating the more widely recognized Mateba semi-automatic revolvers and the Chiappa Rhino. It was developed specifically for competition shooting and produced in a range of calibers and configurations, including long carbine variants, various barrel lengths, and calibers such as .22LR, .32 S&W, .38 Special, and .357 Magnum. As with Ghisoni’s later creations, the design channels recoil in line with the shooter’s arm by positioning the entire cylinder lower in the frame and firing from the top chamber. This approach also separates the cylinder from the lockwork, enabling a slim, ergonomic frame to house a large-capacity cylinder.

The .38 and .357 versions hold 8 rounds, the .32 caliber models 12, and the .22 rimfire versions 14. Carbine models feature even higher capacities. Unlike Ghisoni’s later Mateba revolvers, the MTR series features the traditional double-action/single-action, not semi-automatic or self-cocking. A total of approximately 500 were produced, making them quite rare and collectible pieces.
