Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this awesome semi-automatic pistol today for a penny-start auction, this is the Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf A.N. C96 “Broomhandle” Carbine Conversion.
The Mauser C96 “Broomhandle” carbine represents a long-gun adaptation of the iconic Mauser C96 semi-automatic pistol, a design introduced in 1896 by Waffenfabrik Mauser of Oberndorf am Neckar, Germany. Although Mauser briefly produced a small number of true factory carbines in the late 1890s—most notably the exceedingly rare M1896 Kavallerie-Karabiner—the vast majority of C96 carbines encountered today are later conversions assembled from standard C96 pistols rather than original factory long guns. While some early C96 carbines and copies were produced in Chinese arsenals, not every conversion was performed there—many were later assembled or imported by firms such as Navy Arms, often using parts sourced from multiple locations. Although distinct from original Mauser factory carbines, these converted C96 carbines remain collectible due to their use of genuine Mauser-manufactured receivers, their historical association with post-production modification, and their unmistakable place in the evolutionary history of early semi-automatic firearms.

These carbines retain the C96’s defining mechanical features, including the fixed 10-round internal magazine fed by stripper clips, the characteristic receiver and grip profile, and chambering in 7.63x25mm Mauser, while incorporating an extended barrel (commonly around 16 inches for conversion-era examples), along with a shoulder stock and forend, which came either detachable or permanently fixed.
