Finish: Blue
Barrel Length: 3.4"

Stock/Grips: Checkered Walnut
Action: Semi-Automatic
Markings: Standard
Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Mauser HSc is a compact double-action semi-automatic pistol whose origins trace back to Germany during the Second World War, with the designation HSc standing for Hahn Selbstspanner (“self-cocking hammer”), third and final design “C.” Designed as a commercial pistol, it entered a competitive field alongside the Walther PP/PPK and Sauer 38H, yet still found favor with German military and police services, first with the Kriegsmarine and later with the Army and police units. Wartime production continued briefly under French occupation from 1945 to 1946, with those examples marked by RW proofs and largely issued to French forces in the First Indochina War. Mechanically, the HSc employed a semi-exposed hammer, double-action trigger, single-column magazine, and a recoil spring surrounding the barrel, giving it a sleek profile and relatively modern operating features for its era.

After a long hiatus, Mauser resumed high-quality commercial production at Oberndorf between 1968 and 1977, with most pistols destined for German police and the North American civilian market in both blued and nickel finishes. While the design was originally chambered in 7.65mm Browning (.32 ACP), the majority of late-production HSc pistols were built in 9mm Kurz (.380 ACP), reflecting changing market preferences for more powerful defensive cartridges. Licensed variants such as the Italian-made HSc Super or Mod. 80 expanded the concept with double-column magazines, alternative calibers including 9×18mm Ultra, and American-style magazine releases. In its Mauser form, however, the HSc remains notable for blending wartime service history with postwar commercial refinement, occupying a unique position between classic European police pistols and later compact defensive handguns.
