Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Norinco Type 56S-1, imported by Sile in New York, is a semi-automatic rifle chambered in 7.62x39mm, designed and originally produced in China. A variant of the Soviet-designed AK-47 and AKM, the Type 56 was first produced in 1956 at State Factory 66 and was initially designated as the "Type 1956 Submachine Gun" for the Chinese military before transitioning into a full-service infantry rifle. In the mid-1960s, the Type 56 was updated with stamped receivers, making it similar in design to the Soviet AKMS, a more compact and mobile version of the AK-47. The rifle was later adapted for civilian markets, with the Type 56S-I being the semi-automatic variant popular in the United States.
