The O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc. Model 183 is a bolt-action .410-bore shotgun introduced in 1947 with the 183D series and valued for its rugged simplicity and versatility. The 183D featured a one-piece pistol-grip stock and outside-mounted (externally threaded) choke sleeves. The D-series subvariants—D-A, D-B, D-C, D-D, D-E, D-F, and D-G—introduced progressive updates to the extractor, firing pin, ejector system, barrel profile, trigger, safety, and sights. Mossberg later expanded the line with the 183K series, which replaced the external choke sleeves with the adjustable C-Lect-Choke and combined a longer barrel with a Monte Carlo–style stock. The K-series subvariants—K-A, K-B, K-C, K-D, and K-E—progressively refined the firing pin, barrel profile, trigger, safety lever, sights, and stock, with the final version adding a recoil pad and a shortened trigger guard. To complement the D and K series, Mossberg also offered the more economical 183T, a simplified model featuring a fixed full choke and a 24-inch barrel.
