The Para-Ordnance LDA (Light Double Action) was introduced in 1999 as a significant advancement in the evolution of the 1911 platform. This system offered a light and consistent double-action-style trigger, allowing the pistol to be carried safely with the hammer down while retaining the familiar ergonomics of John Browning’s design. Para-Ordnance, founded in the mid-1980s and widely recognized for pioneering the first practical double-stack 1911 with the P14-45, expanded the LDA system into a diverse series of pistols across various calibers and models. These included the .45 ACP, the .40 S&W, and 9mm, available in full-size, Commander-length, and Officer-length frames. In addition to these double-stack models, Para-Ordnance also introduced single-stack variants featuring the LDA system.

Over the following years, Para expanded the LDA Series with additional models such as the Expert, Pro-Custom, Black Ops, and Recon, reflecting the company’s effort to offer competition, defensive, and tactical pistols that carried forward both the double-stack legacy and the LDA innovation.
