Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The PSP-25 is essentially a U.S.-made version of the iconic Baby Browning, produced under license from Fabrique Nationale (FN), due to the original FN "Le Bébé" being banned from import into the U.S. since 1968. For a company with FN's reputation for quality, licensing another manufacturer to produce one of its products is a significant decision. However, in the case of Precision Small Parts (PSP), now known as Precision Small Arms (PSA), the quality of manufacture is unquestionable. The PSP-25, even in its most basic "Traditional" model, boasts beautiful finishes both inside and out, exuding a level of craftsmanship that immediately stands out. When held, the pistol "feels" right, and working the action confirms its status as a well-made weapon. The original "Le Bébé" pistol was designed in the late 1920s by FN's chief designer, Dieudonné Saive, as a successor to the Browning Vest Pocket pistol of 1905/1906. FN likely aimed to compete with Carl Walther Waffenfabrik's Model 9, which debuted in 1921 and remains one of the smallest .25 caliber pistols ever made. The FN "Le Bébé" was smaller, lighter, and cheaper to produce than its predecessor but retained many of John M. Browning's patents, earning it the "Baby Browning" moniker. Col. W.R. Betz has written a detailed article, John M. Browning’s FN Pocket Pistols, which provides a thorough history of the gun and some background on the Precision Small Parts company.
