The Remington Rolling Block is a family of single-shot rifles that were produced by E. Remington & Sons (later known as Remington Arms) from the mid-1860s through the early 20th century. These rifles were among the most innovative and durable firearms of their time, with the Rolling Block action becoming renowned for its strength, simplicity, and reliability. The design featured a robust, block-style breech mechanism that allowed the shooter to load and unload cartridges easily while providing excellent protection for the shooter’s hand due to the strong, locking block that sealed the chamber. This action was capable of withstanding much higher pressures than many other designs of the era, which made the Rolling Block particularly suited for the emerging smokeless powder cartridges that started gaining widespread use in the late 1880s.
