Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Model 30-S Express is a deluxe bolt-action sporting rifle produced from 1926 through 1940, built on the strong and proven M1917 Enfield action that Remington adapted after World War I. By removing the military rear sight wings, reinforcing the floorplate, and modifying the receiver bridge, Remington transformed surplus service components into a refined factory sporter with improved handling and appearance, sacrificing only one round of magazine capacity in the process. Chambered in the highly versatile .30-06 Springfield, this example represents Remington’s first true high-powered sporting rifle and stands as the direct ancestor of the company’s later legendary bolt-action designs.

As the top-tier “Express” grade, the 30-S features upgraded fit and finish, including a richly blued 24-inch barrel, hooded front sight with adjustable rear, and a checkered walnut pistol-grip stock that reflects the craftsmanship of the pre-war era. Though it may appear understated at first glance, the Model 30-S Express is a historically important factory sporter that bridges military heritage and civilian sporting innovation. Its 1940 manufacture date places it at the end of production, making it especially appealing to knowledgeable collectors who recognize it as a cornerstone in Remington’s bolt-action lineage and an early benchmark of American sporting rifle development.
