The Model 40-SSA is a true limited/collector’s piece—built in small, hand-finished batches in the mid-2000s and produced in only a handful of short runs, some of which were individually numbered. Because examples surface only sporadically at specialty auctions and dealer listings, complete rifles with matching SSA serials, original paperwork, and factory scopes/mounts are uncommon and especially sought after. In short, provenance (box, certificates, and original optics) has an outsized impact on desirability and market value, so numbered, documented examples command the most attention from collectors.

The Remington Model 40-SSA is best understood as a factory-built, limited-edition tribute to the U.S. Marine Corps’ famed M40 sniper rifle — a hand-finished run produced from Remington’s custom shop in the mid-2000s that mimics the look and many of the dimensions of the original M40 while being sold to collectors and civilian shooters as a commemorative piece.
