Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Model 513-T “Matchmaster” is Remington’s mid-century dedicated small-bore target rifle — a beefed-up variant of the 513 family purpose-built for precision .22 Long Rifle work, military training, and junior/ROTC programs. Introduced in 1940 and produced through about 1968, the 513-T is characterized by a heavy tapered 27" semi-floating target barrel, a robust bolt action with full case support, a target (Monte-style/beavertail) walnut stock with a straight comb for consistent cheek weld, and factory aperture (Redfield) rear and globe front sights. It normally fed from a detachable six-round magazine (some late/custom examples use different capacities or aftermarket options), and the receiver was offered in both smooth and grooved/top-tapped forms to accept various sighting solutions or scope bases. Remington made the 513 series in substantial numbers, and the Matchmaster in particular was widely used by clubs and service training units, which explains why so many survive in shootable condition today.

On the range, the 513-T is best thought of as an honest, workmanlike target rifle: when the bore is healthy and the barrel in good condition, these rifles can be very accurate with the right ammunition, and their heavy barrels and stable stocks lend themselves to consistent groups for bench and standing small-bore work. That said, the factory trigger and iron-sight geometry attract predictable notes from shooters — many owners describe the factory trigger as functional but uninspiring compared with modern match triggers, and the stock/sight fit can feel low to adult shooters (leading some users to fit taller peep sights or add aftermarket trigger improvements). For collectors and shooters today, the 513-T occupies a sweet spot: prices are generally affordable on the used market, parts and replacement magazines are still obtainable through parts houses and specialist vendors, and a sensible gunsmith tune (light trigger work, sight adjustment, and bedding if needed) will turn a good 513-T into a very capable practice or small-varmint rifle. When evaluating an example, pay careful attention to barrel and bore condition, magazine and feed lip wear, bolt face/extractor condition, and the integrity of the stock wrist and bedding-these are the items that most affect accuracy and long-term value.
