Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Model 700 AWR II (Alaskan Wilderness Rifle II) is a stout and premium bolt-action rifle designed for hunters who expect their firearms to face the worst nature can deliver—cold, wet, rugged, and remote terrain. Built in Remington’s Custom Shop, the AWR II features a stainless-steel barreled action with a Black TriNyte finish, which is essentially hardened and treated steel underscored by corrosion resistance, to protect the rifle in harsh climates. The barrel is custom-turned, chambered, then hammer-forged and fluted for some weight savings and better heat dissipation, while the action is “blue-printed,” meaning tighter tolerances are applied to parts during manufacture to elevate accuracy. The stock is a rugged Bell & Carlson composite, hung on a full-length aluminum bedding block that helps maintain mechanical integrity under recoil and environmental stresses. Remington finishes this rifle with the Model 40-X trigger, tuned to about 3 lbs, a recessed crown for barrel protection, and a machined stainless steel trigger guard and floor plate, so metal parts are up to the same level of craftsmanship as internals. Beyond its build quality, what distinguishes the AWR II is how well it balances performance, ruggedness, and shooter-friendly features. In Magnum chamberings, it uses a 26-inch barrel; non-Magnum calibers typically get 24-inch barrels. All versions are fitted with a synthetic (composite) stock with a weather-resistant finish, full-length bedded to reduce movement and maintain zero. The rifle employs a blind internal magazine with a hinged floorplate—mag capacity is three rounds for magnums, four for standard calibers. It also has provisions for mounting optics (receiver drilled & tapped) but avoids unnecessary add-ons that increase weight or reduce reliability. The weight, in magnum version, runs about 7½ lbs, with an overall length of about 46½", making it substantial but well within the expected dimensions for a full-power big-game rifle.
