Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Model 241 is a classic American semi-automatic rimfire rifle that stands out as one of the finest .22-caliber takedown designs ever produced, blending historical significance with enduring mechanical excellence. Introduced by Remington Arms Company in 1935 as an improvement on the earlier Model 24, the Model 241 — later known as the Speedmaster — was produced until about 1949 (with sales continuing into 1951) and saw roughly 107,000 units manufactured in both .22 Short and .22 Long Rifle chamberings, though the two calibers were not interchangeable in the same rifle. It was based on a John Browning design lineage similar to the famed Browning SA-22, but Remington’s engineers, led by Crawford C. Loomis, refined the takedown mechanism and strengthened internal components to handle high-velocity .22 LR ammunition better, giving it a robust feel and excellent balance. The rifle features a 24-inch tapered barrel and a simple yet reliable blowback action feeding from a tubular magazine in the buttstock that holds 10 rounds of .22 LR or 15 of .22 Short, and its takedown capability — allowing the barrel and forend to be quickly separated from the receiver — made it especially practical for transport and cleaning. With open or adjustable sights and a comfortable walnut stock, the Model 241 was prized for its smooth handling, solid accuracy, and dependable cycling, earning a reputation as both a great all-around .22 rifle for small game hunting and recreational shooting and a favorite in shooting galleries of its era. Today it is highly regarded by collectors and enthusiasts alike for its historical importance, quality construction, and the elegant simplicity of its design — characteristics that have helped sustain its reputation long after production ended.
