Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington New Model Pocket Revolver, introduced in 1865 and produced until roughly 1873, was Remington’s compact answer to the growing civilian market for small, easily carried metallic-cartridge handguns in the post–Civil War era. Built on a solid-frame design derived from Remington’s successful New Model Army and Navy percussion revolvers, the pocket model was scaled down for personal protection and urban carry. It was chambered primarily in .31 Rimfire and featured a spur trigger, a five-shot cylinder, and a sleek, streamlined profile that made it competitive with Colt’s 1849 Pocket and early metallic-cartridge conversions. Its factory production coincided with the transition from percussion to metallic cartridges, making it one of the early purpose-built rimfire revolvers available to the public.

Although not produced in the same quantities as Remington’s military revolvers, the New Model Pocket filled an important niche and helped broaden the company’s postwar commercial offerings. Variants included different barrel lengths, finishes, and grip materials, and many surviving examples show the honest wear of daily carry. Today, the model is appreciated for its transitional design—combining the proven Remington solid frame with early rimfire technology—and collectors value it as a representative piece of the period’s rapid evolution in small defensive firearms. High-condition examples or those with scarce features command the most interest, as production numbers were relatively modest compared to Remington’s full-size service revolvers.
