Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The 2002 Ruger New Model Single-Six in .32 H&R Magnum is Ruger’s thoughtfully modernized single-action revolver option for shooters who wanted magnum-class performance in a classic western-style package — chambered for .32 H&R Magnum (and therefore capable of firing the shorter .32 S&W and .32 S&W Long cartridges), the 2002 reintroduction restored a popular centerfire caliber to the New-Model lineup and married it to Ruger’s proven, safety-forward architecture. Mechanically it’s a true single-action: a six-shot fluted cylinder, loading-gate loading and an exposed ejector rod beneath the barrel give it the familiar manual-of-arms of a Peacemaker-type revolver, while Ruger’s patented transfer-bar safety and loading-gate interlock let owners carry with all six chambers loaded without the safety concerns of pre-1973 designs. The 2002 offerings came in a range of trim choices and barrel lengths (Ruger cataloged short and target contours, including compact “bird’s head” and longer 4.625"–6.5" barrels on various models), with cold hammer-forged barrels, adjustable rear sights on many trims and quality grip options such as micarta, rosewood or traditional walnut depending on the run — details that positioned the gun as both a practical small-game/hunter’s sidearm and a handsome, period-evocative shooter. In handling the .32 H&R Single-Six feels notably stouter than a rimfire Single-Six: recoil and report are elevated over .22-caliber models but remain mild compared with larger magnum centerfires, making the revolver an excellent bridge between economical plinking and genuine field usefulness for varmints and close-range hunting. Ruger’s manufacturing pedigree — solid steel construction, tight barrel-to-frame fit and readily available factory manuals and parts — plus the model’s intermittent production history (original .32 H&R runs in the 1980s, a formal reintroduction around 2002) mean that well-kept 2002 examples are attractive both to practical shooters and collectors who value a modern safety suite on a classic single-action platform.
