Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Savage Arms Model 28 was an improved version of the Model 21, manufactured from 1927 to 1934, and patterned after the Winchester Model 1912. It was produced in several main variants, generally identified by their intended purpose and functional features rather than appearance alone. These included the Model 28-A standard field grade, which served as the base hunting configuration and was the most commonly encountered version. The Model 28-B added a raised matted rib to enhance sighting and improve target acquisition in the field. The Model 28-C was configured as a riot or defensive model, often featuring a more practical and compact setup. The Model 28-D was the trap-grade designed for clay target shooting. Later, the Model 28-3 was introduced as an improved version of the lineup, featuring checkering on the stock and roll-marked engraved game scenes on the receiver, giving it a more refined and visually detailed appearance. While these variants offered different levels of refinement and specialized features, the Model 28-A remains the standard field-grade example and best represents the shotgun’s core design. This shotgun is chambered in 12 gauge and accepts 2 3/4-inch shells, featuring a durable blued finish that contributes to its rugged and traditional appearance. Built around a dependable pump-action system that emphasizes durability, simplicity, and versatility, it delivers smooth operation and reliable performance in a wide range of conditions.
