The Savage Arms Model 28 was an improved version of the Model 21, manufactured from 1927 to 1934, and patterned after the Winchester Model 1912. It was produced in several main variants, generally identified by their intended purpose and functional features rather than appearance alone. These included the Model 28-A standard field grade, which served as the base hunting configuration and was the most commonly encountered version.
