Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this ULTRA RARE and HIGHLY SOUGHT-AFTER semi-automatic pistol for a penny-start auction; this is the Seecamp/Colt Combat Commander!
A Colt Combat Commander built on—or modified with—a Seecamp-marked “LWS” frame represents one of the more unusual and historically interesting custom 1911 variants, reflecting the period when L.W. Seecamp’s innovative double-action mechanisms and compact-frame concepts were adapted to full-size pistols. These hybrids typically indicate a Seecamp-style double-action conversion or specialized framework in which the original 1911 frame was extensively re-machined to accept Seecamp’s proprietary trigger system. Such pistols can feature distinctive frame cuts, unique trigger-group geometry, and other visible alterations tied to the conversion. They stand out today for their rarity and niche appeal among collectors of custom or experimental 1911s.
The left toe of the trigger guard is stamped “LWS.”

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Combat Commander emerged in 1970 as a modernized, more compact evolution of the classic Government Model, designed to offer a lighter, handier variant of the 1911 platform without sacrificing its proven ergonomics and reliability. Early production offered the choice of an all-steel frame—simply called the “Combat Commander”—or a then-innovative lightweight aluminum-frame version known as the “Commander.” Built with a 4¼" barrel rather than the Government Model’s 5", the Combat Commander balanced reduced size with full-power chamberings such as .45 ACP and 9mm. Over the years, Colt refined the line with Series 70, Series 80, and eventually modern variants featuring updated safeties, improved metallurgy, and enhanced sights, reflecting its ongoing role as a practical defensive sidearm.

Historically, the Combat Commander has appealed to shooters wanting a carry-friendly 1911 with the familiar handling and durability of a steel frame. Its production from the 1970s onward spans multiple collectible periods, including desirable early Series 70 models, transitional Series 80 pistols, and special editions released by the Colt Custom Shop. Today, the Combat Commander holds a respected place among enthusiasts for its blend of traditional 1911 characteristics and practical everyday usability. Its steady evolution—combined with Colt’s intermittent production cycles—gives certain versions notable collector interest, particularly early examples, limited-run configurations, and pistols retaining original finish and components.
