The P239 was developed in response to demands from law enforcement and federal agents for a compact back-up pistol ideal for off duty concealed carry. The slim profile of this single-stack pistol provides easy concealment without sacrificing handling. The excellent handling characteristics of the P239 are the result of engineering called "performance engineering" and it's one of the keys to all SIG SAUER pistols. The Sig P239 SAS is an enhanced version of the P239 that has been optimized to serve in a concealed carry role. The pistol was originally, like the P225, designed for Law Enforcement, but the P239 was specifically designed to satisfy the requests of DHS, the NCIS, and ICE. In fact, in 2004, Sig supplied 65,000 of these pistols to the government.
