The SIG Sauer P556 is a compact pistol variant of the SIG 556 rifle platform produced by SIG Sauer and designed to deliver the performance and rugged reliability of a rifle-style system in a handgun configuration. Introduced in the late 2000s, the P556 is chambered in 5.56×45mm NATO and is based on the operating system of the SIG SG 550 family developed by SIG Sauer AG.
