Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The .45 Hand Ejector Model of 1955 was first completed on March 3, 1955 and incorporated all of the features for which competitive shooters had asked. These features included a heavier barrel for better balance and faster recovery, target stocks for a better grip and a target hammer and trigger to allow better function. The handgun was considered to be the top of the line in competitive revolvers. The Model 25, as it was named in 1957, has been a popular revolver since its introduction in 1955 and remains in production to date. During the years several changes were made to this model. In September 1975 Smith & Wesson up graded it line of 'N' revolver so that they would be equal to the prestigious Model 29 series of revolvers. The Model 25 was provided with a bright blue finish and checkered Goncalo Alves target grips and shipped with a mahogany presentation case. In 1977, Smith & Wesson began offering the Model 25 in the .45 Colt caliber. This meant that the same model was available in two different calibers. The designation Model 25-2 became important as it indicated the revolver was manufactured in the .45 ACP cartridge.
