Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson .32 Safety Hammerless (Second Model) is a compact, early-20th-century “hammerless” top-break revolver that became famous for its concealed-carry friendliness and the distinctive grip-safety that earned it the affectionate nickname “Lemon Squeezer.” Built on S&W’s New-Departure design lineage, the Second Model Safety Hammerless is a 5-shot, double-action revolver chambered for the .32 S&W cartridge and presented in small-frame proportions intended for pocket or vest carry; its internal hammer and smooth profile reduced snagging when drawn and the external grip safety on the backstrap provided an extra layer of accidental-discharge protection when carried in a pocket. Typical Second Model examples were offered with short barrels (commonly 2", 3", and 3.5") and were finished in either bright nickel plating or blued steel, often fitted with hard-rubber or pearl/granulated grips and a solid-ribbed barrel that was popular at the time — features that give surviving specimens a distinctly turn-of-the-century appearance. The revolver’s top-break action made loading and ejection fast for its day (the hinge and extractor unit dumped fired cases for rapid reloads), and the double-action trigger-only operation (with a smoother single-action break on many examples) made it straightforward to use under stress — which is why it was widely marketed to civilians, bicycle riders and plainclothes professionals in the pre-WWII era. From a collector and practical-use standpoint the Second Model should be inspected for cylinder timing, lockup and bore condition (these are the usual wear points on 100-year-old top-break revolvers), and value varies considerably with barrel length, original finish and grip completeness; well-preserved Second Models are modestly collectible and regularly appear in antique-firearms listings and auctions.
Return Policy:
We gladly offer a 3 day unfired inspection policy from the time that the firearm is delivered to your FFL. Refunds are available for all qualifying orders.
