Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this RARE semi-automatic pistol today for a penny-start auction; this is the Smith & Wesson 469 Ashland Shooting Supplies Edition!
The Smith & Wesson Model 469 Ashland Shooting Supplies Edition is a special distributor-exclusive variation of Smith & Wesson’s compact 9mm pistol produced in the mid-1980s. The standard Model 469 itself was part of Smith & Wesson’s second-generation semi-automatic line, designed as a compact carry pistol with a 3.5-inch barrel, alloy frame, double-action/single-action operation, and 12-round magazine capacity, making it one of the early high-capacity compact service pistols of its era. What makes the Ashland edition unique is that it was produced as a limited run of 1,500 pistols for Ashland Shooting Supplies, finished in satin nickel with distinctive slide cuts reminiscent of Devel-modified pistols and bearing “TAB” serial number prefixes. Because these were distributor exclusives rather than standard catalog models, far fewer were produced compared to normal Model 469 pistols, and many were carried or modified over the decades. As a result, original examples—especially those retaining their factory nickel finish, original box, and complete accessories—have become increasingly desirable among collectors of Smith & Wesson’s early compact semi-autos and distributor-limited variants.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 469, commonly referred to as “The Mini”, was introduced in 1983 as part of the company’s 2nd Generation series of compact semi-automatic pistols and remained in production until 1989. Constructed with a short alloy frame and a steel slide, this traditional double-action 9mm offered full-power performance in a compact, easily concealable configuration, representing a significant advancement in Smith & Wesson’s development of compact autoloaders. The pistol weighed 26 ounces and featured a 3 1/2-inch barrel, a 12-round magazine, a .260-inch bobbed hammer, a .365-inch smooth trigger, and a manual safety, complemented by a squared trigger guard and a three-piece pebble-grain molded Delrin grip bearing the S&W monogram. Its sighting system consisted of a 1/8-inch serrated ramp front sight with a yellow bar and a white-outline rear sight, drift-adjustable for windage. The Model 469 was produced primarily in a blue sandblast finish; however, a limited run in satin nickel was manufactured exclusively for Ashland Shooting Supplies in the summer of 1984, and can be identified by the serial prefix “TAB". Today, these are particularly prized by collectors. Initially referred to as the “Mini-gun”, the pistol’s design drew inspiration from custom Devel pistols, emphasizing compact ergonomics and carry-friendly handling without compromising firepower. Production concluded in April 1989 with the introduction of the 3rd Generation Model 6904, by which time approximately 97,261 units had been manufactured, securing the Model 469’s status as a notable milestone in the evolution of Smith & Wesson’s compact semi-automatic pistols.
