Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this double-action semi-automatic pistol for a penny-start auction; this is the Smith & Wesson Model 5906.
The Smith & Wesson Model 5906 is one of the most respected all-steel service pistols from Smith & Wesson’s third-generation semi-automatic lineup. Produced from 1989 to 1999, the Model 5906 was built with a durable stainless-steel frame and slide, chambered in 9mm, and designed around a traditional double-action/single-action operating system with a high-capacity magazine—features that made it extremely popular with law-enforcement agencies during the 1990s.
This particular example, SKU 108176U, is especially interesting because pistols in this series were often retained by the factory for internal purposes such as demonstrations, warranty replacements, or law-enforcement support before later being released to the commercial market and marked as “used,” even when they appeared nearly new. According to the owner, this pistol was originally used as a factory demonstration gun shown to law enforcement agencies when Smith & Wesson was introducing the Model 5906, adding a unique layer of provenance that connects it directly to the era when the pistol was being actively promoted to police departments across the United States.
According to the owner, this example is in “New Old Stock” condition, and we see no evidence to suggest otherwise.

Throughout the late 20th century, the Model 5906 saw widespread adoption among police departments and government agencies across the United States, earning a reputation for rugged construction and dependable performance. Its weight and solid stainless-steel build helped reduce recoil and improve durability during extensive training and duty use. Although later replaced in many agencies by lighter polymer-framed pistols, the Model 5906 remains highly respected among enthusiasts of classic duty handguns. Today, it is appreciated by collectors and shooters alike as a representative example of the robust, all-metal service pistols that dominated the law enforcement market before the widespread transition to polymer designs.
