Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The firearm is chambered in .22 Long Rifle and features a 5-shot capacity. It is available in either a blue or nickel finish, with a 2-1/8" barrel and plastic grips. This semi-automatic pistol is equipped with a fixed ramp front sight and a square-notch rear sight. A zippered gun rug carrying case is included in the box, along with a manual safety. The serial number range for this model is B1 to B65438, with serial numbers B1 to B500 and B500 to B1000 being special presentation groups. Produced between 1970 and 1973, the Model 61 was initially listed in the 1969 Smith & Wesson catalog, with the first guns shipping in March 1970. Production of this model was discontinued four years later, totaling 64,938 units, approximately 6,600 of which were finished in nickel. It is important to note that many of the early pistols were returned to the factory for repair. Instead of repairing the pistols, the factory would replace them with new guns, changing the serial numbers before returning them to the customer.
