Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 645 is a traditional double-/single-action, stainless-steel semi-automatic pistol chambered in .45 ACP. Introduced in late 1985, it features an 8-round single-stack magazine, a 5-inch barrel, a serrated ramp front sight with red insert, an adjustable rear sight, ambidextrous safety, a 0.260-inch serrated hammer, and a 0.365-inch smooth trigger, complemented by black checkered nylon grips. Weighing 37.5 ounces, the Model 645 marked Smith & Wesson’s first commercially produced .45 ACP semi-automatic pistol. Transitional examples are identified primarily by model-number markings and appear interspersed among fixed- and adjustable-sight variants, bridging the 645 and the later 4506 models. The initial production serial range ran from TAK0001 through TAK7727. Early pistols feature a Phillips-head decocker screw, alloy backstrap, and half-cock hammer notch, while later examples incorporate an Allen-head decocker screw, plastic backstrap, no half-cock notch, and approximately 1/4-inch shorter double-action trigger travel. Production ran from circa 1985 to 1988.
