Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 1873 rifle had three versions differentiated by their serial numbers. The first version (serial number 1 to about 31000) had grooved guides on both sides of the rifle to retain the dust cover. The second version (serial number 31000 to 90000) had a dust cover on one central guide, secured to the receiver with two screws. The third version integrated the central guide rail as part of the receiver. The Model 1873 .22 Rimfire Rifle was the first repeating rifle in America chambered for .22 caliber and was introduced in 1884. It was discontinued in 1904, and Winchester sold just over 19,000 of these rifles.
This example is in excellent condition overall to be over a century old, showing less than average evidence of use and handling over the years!
