Markings: Standard / The left side of the receiver is stamped with the serial number “K150” and “MAUSER CHILENO MODELO 1895 / DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN. / BERLIN”. The top of the chamber is stamped with the Chilean coat of arms crest. The left side of the buttstock is stamped with a Chilean coat of arms cartouche over a date of 1898. The left side of the stock is also stamped with the serial number “K150”.

The Mauser Chileno Modelo 1895, produced by Deutsche Waffen- und Munitionsfabriken (DWM), was a German-manufactured bolt-action rifle chambered in 7x57mm Mauser and officially adopted by Chile around the turn of the 20th century. Initial production was carried out by Ludwig Loewe & Company in Berlin from 1895 to 1896; following Loewe’s merger into DWM, manufacturing continued under the new name from 1897 to 1900. Chilean contract rifles typically bore the receiver inscription “Mauser Chileno Modelo 1895, Deutsche Waffen-Und Munitionsfabriken, Berlin.” Approximately 80,000 rifles and 30,000 carbines were delivered to the Chilean Army during the regional arms buildup of the 1890s. Mechanically, the Modelo 1895 introduced key refinements over the earlier 1893 model, including a cylindrical bolt face (replacing the earlier square design), a safety shoulder behind the bolt handle, and a rounded magazine follower that allowed the bolt to close on an empty magazine.

Interestingly, a small number of rifles originally manufactured for the Boer republics—specifically the Orange Free State and the South African Republic (Z.A.R.)—were diverted to Chile after British blockades disrupted deliveries during the Second Boer War.
