According to the included factory letter this Colt Police Positive Revolver was shipped to Von Lengerke & Detmold in New York, New York on August 19, 1912. There were a total of 2 guns in this shipment.

The Colt Police Positive was an improved version of the New Police adding Colt's "Positive Safety" feature. The Police Positive was extremely popular with police departments wanting a small, light weight revolver. It was produced in various forms from 1907 to 1947.
The Police Positive First Issue was available in .32 Colt , .32 Colt New Police, .38 New Police which is essentially the .38 S&W. It was available with barrels of 2 1/2", 4", 5", and 6".
Finishes were bright blue and bright nickel. Hard rubber grips were used until 1923 after which checkered walnut with silver Colt medallions were standard. The First Issue was made from 1907 to 1927.
