Optics/Sights: Blade front / Fixed rear
Stock/Grips: Walnut grips w/ aggerssive front and back strap texturing
Action: Semi Auto
Markings: Left side of the frame stamped with the British "Broad Arrow over crossed pennants". Left side slide is stamped behind the serrations with the British "Crossed pennants". Slide is also stamped "Patented Apr 23,1397 Sept 9.1902 Dec 1.1905 Feb 14,1911 Auc 19,1913".
Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
This pistol is from a range of Colt produced 1911s shipped to England for the WWI war efforts. It was after much appeal that the U.S. War Department authorized Colt to produce these guns for the British Royal Air Force, who pleaded that the pistols were “urgently needed by our flying forces” and the failure to deliver would result in the forces being “seriously handicapped”. 15,000 Colt 1911s were eventually delivered to the British by 1919, with 45,000 extra magazines. The British highly respected the quality, reliability and superiority of the 1911 over comparable semi-automatics of the day, even their own. These guns were integral in the performance of the Royal Air Force "RAF" and the success of the Allies in WWI. These 1911's were even retained by the RAF through WWII.
Condition and Contents:
As you can see in the many high resolution photos, this Colt is in great over all restored condition showing no evidence of excessive consumer use or handling over the years that we can see!
