According to the included Colt factory letter, this Model 1911 Military was sold to the United States Government and shipped to a Commanding Officer at Springfield Armory, Springfield, Massachusetts, on July 3, 1917, as part of a 1,000-gun shipment. What truly sets this example apart, however, is its exceptional condition—an increasingly rare attribute among surviving World War I-era service pistols.
