Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
Firearms from the World War I era have experienced a revival in collector interest in recent years, with much of the surge in popularity driven by films and video games featuring many of the period's iconic weapons. Classic firearms such as the Mauser C96 and Springfield M1903 remain highly coveted by collectors and frequently appear in popular media. With the vast number of firearms used during and around World War I, new collectors may sometimes miss out on some truly remarkable weapons that don’t receive as much attention as their more well-known counterparts. In fact, these lesser-known firearms often provide excellent value for collectors and shooters alike. A perfect example of this is the Steyr M1912 pistol. The Steyr Model 1912 is a semi-automatic, short-recoil-operated handgun chambered in 9x23mm Steyr. It features a full-size grip, housing an internal eight-round magazine loaded using stripper clips. Often referred to as the "Steyr Hahn" (with "Hahn" being the German word for "hammer"), the M1912 was first produced in 1911 by the renowned Austrian arms manufacturer ŒWG Steyr. Although it was not immediately adopted by Austria-Hungarian troops, the pistol was successful in the export market, with both Chile and Romania ordering variants from Steyr.

However, with the onset of World War I, exports to Romania, an Entente-aligned country, ceased. Consequently, the Austria-Hungarian government placed large orders for Steyr M1912 pistols to supplement their supply of Roth Krnka M7 pistols. The M1912 quickly gained a reputation as a reliable military service pistol. Additionally, the Steyr M1912 has become a highly collectible World War I firearm, sought after by both general firearm enthusiasts and military firearm collectors.
