Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Model 1896 rifle, chambered in 6.5×55mm (6,5 mm Gevär m/96), was adopted by the Swedish military in 1896 to replace the earlier Model 1867–1889 Remington rolling block rifle in 8×58mmR Danish Krag. Production in Sweden began in 1898 at Carl Gustafs, but due to delays in receiving machinery from Germany, Mauser also manufactured additional rifles in 1899 and 1900. Standard production at Carl Gustafs continued until 1925, and during World War II, Husqvarna Vapenfabriks AB produced approximately 18,000 m/96 rifles for civilian marksmanship training. Overall, Mauser produced 40,000 m/1896 long rifles between 1899 and 1900, Carl Gustafs Stads Gevärsfaktori made 475,000 m/1896 rifles between 1896 and 1932, and Husqvarna Vapenfabriks AB produced 20,000 m/1896 rifles between 1942 and 1944, resulting in a total production of around 535,000 m/96 rifles. The m/96 rifle featured a triangular front sight post and a rear tangent sight with a V-shaped notch. The rear sight, when folded down, was graduated from 300 to 600 meters (328 to 656 yards) in 100-meter (109-yard) increments, while the flipped-up position was graduated from 700 to 2,000 meters (766 to 2,187 yards). These iron sights were designed for the 6.5×55mm m/94 ball ammunition with a round-nosed (B-projectile) bullet, with the flipped-up sight intended for use against enemy formations rather than individual targets.
