Item Description

Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this outstanding bolt-action rifle today for a penny-start auction, this is the Winchester Model 52A Target Unmarked “A!”

Some mid-1930s Model 52 rifles were constructed with the updated 52A design, featuring a thicker safety abutment and a modified safety stem, yet were produced before Winchester consistently stamped the “A” suffix on the receiver. These Unmarked "A” rifles are regarded by enthusiasts as a transitional and collectible subset, combining the Type-A internal improvements with the absence of the external “A” marking.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 52, introduced in 1920, is a renowned bolt-action .22 caliber rifle celebrated for its exceptional accuracy and craftsmanship. Originally developed to meet the U.S. Army's need for a smallbore training rifle, it quickly gained popularity among civilian target shooters. These Winchester Rimfire rifles featured a five-shot box magazine, a "Speedlock" bolt mechanism, which was introduced in 1929 to reduce lock time, and adjustable sights.

Throughout its production run, the Model 52 evolved into several variants, numbered from 52A to 52E, each incorporating refinements such as improved triggers, stock designs, and bedding systems. Production of the Model 52 concluded in 1980, with over 125,000 units manufactured between all the variants. Despite its discontinuation, the Model 52 and its variants remain highly regarded rifles among collectors and vintage marksmen for their enduring accuracy and historical significance.
