Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In 1915, Colt embarked on a mission to create a .22 caliber pistol based on the design of their popular 1911 Government model. After years of development, the Ace was finally assembled in 1930. However, production was limited, with fewer than 11,000 units made between 1930 and 1947. Each unit was given a unique serial number ranging from 1 to 10,935. While the Ace was intended to be a .22 version of the Government model, it has several key differences. For one, the Ace has a 1/4″ shorter barrel and functions as a blowback rather than a tilt-barrel. Additionally, the Ace has significantly less recoil than the Government model, making it a pleasure to shoot.
This pistol is a fantastic choice for target shooting or recreational plinking. However, given its condition, it is likely that collectors will be keen to add it to their collections. It is a piece of history that represents the mastery of Colt's craftsmanship. Owning one of these guns is a privilege, and it would make an exceptional addition to any collection in America.
