Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Ishapore SHTLE III .410 conversion is a unique variant. Starting as an SHTLE III (Short Magazine Lee-Enfield) in .303 British, its conversion to a .410 smoothbore made it suitable for less-lethal applications, which is why these were often issued to police and security forces rather than the military. The wooden block in the magazine well was common for these conversions, essentially making it a single-shot weapon. RFI (Rifle Factory Ishapore) was known for these modifications, often re-marking the rifles to denote the conversion and ensuring they were still functional but suitable for civil duties. A mismatched rifle like this is fairly common due to the number of times they were rebuilt and reissued. It's a great example of how military firearms were adapted for various purposes over time.
