Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Woodsman was a popular sporting pistol made by U.S. Colt's Manufacturing Company from 1915 to 1977. This semi-automatic pistol was designed by John Moses Browning and underwent three series of frame design changes. The first series was produced from 1915 to 1941, the second from 1947 to 1955, and the third from 1955 to 1977.

The base model was the Target Model, which had a 6" barrel with adjustable front and rear sights. Interestingly, the name "Woodsman" was not used until 1927. The Sport Model was specifically created as a field sidearm for hiking and camping in 1933 and had a 4.5" barrel. The original versions in the first series came with a fixed front sight, but by the latter half of production, an adjustable sight was available. The Match Target Model was introduced in 1938 and had a heavier barrel with a one-piece wrap-around grip known as the "elephant ear." The slide had a "Bullseye" icon, which gave rise to the nickname "Bullseye Match Target."
