Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Pistole Parabellum, also known as the Luger or Luger P08, is a toggle-locked, recoil-operated semi-automatic pistol. Produced in various models by several nations from 1898 to 1949, the Luger was initially patented by Georg Luger as an improvement over the Borchardt C-93. It was first manufactured by the German arms company Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) under the name Parabellum Automatic Pistol, Borchardt-Luger System. The first production model was the Model 1900 Parabellum, followed by the Marinepistole 1904, which was designed for the Imperial German Navy. The Luger was officially adopted by the Swiss military in 1900, the Imperial German Navy in 1906, and the German Army in 1908. It served as the standard service pistol for several countries, including Switzerland, Portugal, the Netherlands, Brazil, Bolivia, and Bulgaria.

In Germany, it was adopted in a slightly modified form as the Pistole Modell 1908 (Pistole 08), chambered in 9×19mm. The Luger was later replaced in German service by the Walther P38. The pistol is most famously associated with Germany during both World War I and World War II, as well as the interwar Weimar Republic and the postwar East German Volkspolizei.
