Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Karabinek wz.29 (Kbk wz.29), also known as carbine model 29, was a short rifle manufactured in Poland. It was based on the German Kar98AZ. The identifying features of this rifle include a 98/05 style mast bayonet lug located directly beneath the front sight, and winged protective ears on either side of the front sight blade. Cavalry models of the rifle had a turned-down bolt handle, and early versions featured a stacking hook at the end of the stock on the right side.
This particular rifle model was produced as a replica of the Karabiner 98k at the Radom factory in Germany. The factory was controlled by the Austrian company called Steyr and they manufactured rifles for the Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe. The name of the rifle is a combination of the German word 'gewehr' which means rifle, the last two digits of the Polish model number 29, and the last two digits of the year of production for the Germans, which is 40. The rifles that were produced can be identified by the stamp G 29/40 on their receiver. These rifles are sometimes referred to as Gewehr 29/40(ö) where (ö) stands for österreichisch or Austria.
